Katie Costa

Paralegal

katie@gtilg.com

Katie joined Gian-Grasso & Tomczak Immigration Law Group as a paralegal in 2021. She has an interest in immigration law as both her parents immigrated from Portugal. She speaks Portuguese and Spanish and is attentive to each client’s needs. She works very closely with the supervising attorneys on each immigration case ranging from defensive or affirmative asylum, to withholding of removal, detained immigration work and more. She drafts and files court motions and submissions and also completes USCIS affirmative immigration applications.

Katie received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies with a double minor in History and Spanish from Arcadia University in 2013. Before joining GT Immigration Law Group, she worked in the financial sector, obtained her paralegal certificate, and was employed as an Estate Administration Paralegal.

In 2021, Katie graduated from Widener University Delaware School of Law with her Juris Doctorate Degree. While attending law school she was the President of Youth Court Club, a program that embodies a restorative justice approach to the juvenile justice system, as opposed to a punitive one. In Youth Court, when a student gets in trouble, a jury of the student’s peers determines the outcome for the student’s minor offense at school. During the course of Youth Court teaching sessions, each student takes a turn in playing the role of judge, Respondent, Attorney for the Respondent, Bailiff or jury member. With the success of this program, many juvenile courts around the country are looking to implement similar restorative justice approaches. Youth Court is an organization that Katie greatly enjoyed her role in as a teacher and mentor.
As a law student, Katie also gained experience as an immigration paralegal in a small firm. Furthermore, she interned at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. There, she expanded her legal research and writing skills and broadened her legal network.

In her free time, Katie enjoys listening to music, travelling, and spending time with family and friends. Katie is hoping to become licensed this year so that she too may represent clients with their immigration needs.
